Reconstruction Project of Air Communication Between Abkhazia and Russia

Investments in the reconstruction project of air communication between Abkhazia and Russia will amount to 12 billion rubles, with the first trial flight from Russia to the Sukhum airport expected in 2024. This information was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation following the visit of the Abkhazian delegation.

The Russian delegation inspected the progress of work at the capital construction sites, assessed the readiness for the implementation of joint Russian-Abkhazian programs in the sphere of socio-economic development of Abkhazia, financed in 2024 from the Russian budget.

"In 2024, alongside budgetary sources, investment capital participates proportionately in the republic's development. Thanks to joint efforts, both parties have embarked on the implementation of an investment project to restore air communication with Abkhazia. The investment volume in the project exceeds 12 billion rubles, and this year we expect the first trial flight from Russia to the reconstructed Sukhum airport," said Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, Dmitry Volvach.

According to Volvach, in 2024, Russia's financial assistance to the republic will amount to 5.6 billion rubles. The funds will be directed towards the socio-economic development and implementation of budgetary investments within the framework of concluded bilateral intergovernmental agreements. "To date, the Russian and Abkhazian sides have created all necessary conditions for the further implementation of the planned cooperation and strengthening of the common social and economic space," said the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia.
